Licensure Renewal Courses

Heartland Christian Schools offers several opportunities to receive licensure renewal credit through Dordt University.  Schools may request to have classes held at their location, or individual teachers may register and attend classes at Dordt University.  Please contact Nicki Kuiper at heartland@dordt.edu if you would like to receive licensure renewal credit at your school.  Otherwise, please register below to attend the classes at Dordt.

These classes are being offered this summer. 

June 1 - June 30: "Tech Skills Refresh for Educators" (facilitator, Kristin Mulder)

Attendees will get a refresher on some of the tech skills that are necessary for successful navigation of the internet, cloud storage, Google tools, and more! Participants will be given a set instructional videos and lessons to choose from and then will complete a required number of the lessons.

Location: Online;  All lessons due by June 30

June 14-15: “Summative Assessment = Engagement” (facilitator, Nicki Kuiper)

Attendees will discover new ideas that will allow them to provide summative assessment that focuses on engaging students creatively and authentically.

June 16-17: "Google Tools: Functionality and Implementation" (Beginner / Intermediate)  (facilitator, Kristin Mulder)

August 3-4: "Struggling Readers 101!" (facilitators, Megan Kooima and Renee Saarloos)

How do you efficiently identify struggling readers in your classroom? Once you have identified them what do you do with your struggling reader? Attendees will discover assessments and strategies to utilize that will focus on reading, writing and spelling.

August 8-9: “PBS Learning: Tools for Every Teacher”  (facilitator, Nicki Kuiper) 

Attendees will discover the many tools offered at PBS.org and to plan learning activities in the units of their choosing.  Walk away from this class with lesson plans that you can use that include videos, games, and other resources provided by PBS.org.  Who knew there was so much there?
